RightSeeds Workshop on the Philippines is approaching

At the end of January, a large part of the RightSeeds team will be travelling to the Philippines. From 04.02.2019 – 09.02.2019 the staff members will conduct a workshop in cooperation with MASIPAG on the Philippine island of Luzon, more precisely in Rajal Centro, Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija. MASIPAG (Magsasaka at Siyentipiko para sa Pag-unlad ng Agrikultura – Farmer-Scientist Partnership for Development) is a farmer-led network of people’s organisations, NGOs and scientists working together to promote the sustainable use of biological diversity. To achieve this, farmers have control over genetic and biological resources, agricultural production and related knowledge.

The six-day workshop brings together various RightSeeds practice partners from both Germany and the Philippines. The aim is to create an exchange between Philippine and German breeders, who come from very different backgrounds, but are equally committed to maintaining biodiversity and independence for breeders and farmers. In the course of the workshop, an onion farm will be visited and the topic of vegetable seeds and local breeding will be examined in more detail. Another workshop day will focus on rice, with a visit to the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) and a rice tasting. Also on the agenda will be the prevailing political conditions in the Philippines regarding seeds and varieties, including a discussion at the Ministry.

The RightSeeds website will provide the latest news in the course of the trip.
